Automatic Term Mapping (continued): When No Match is Found
If no match is found?
There are times when PubMed is unable to match a search term with the subject, journal or author indexes.
PubMed will then search the individual words in All Fields. These individual terms will then be combined (ANDed) together.
For example, pressure point is not found in any of the PubMed indexes as a phrase. Therefore, the two words are searched separately.
Pressure is mapped to MeSH, but point does not match in any of the tables, so is searched in All Fields.
In cases where your medical subject term does not map to MeSH, it is best to try to find another term in MeSH to describe your topic. See the later tutorial section on building a search with the MeSH Database for more information.
