Suggested Answer for Exercise 1:

This is a suggested answer. Your approach, as well as the number of results retrieved, may vary. New citations are added regularly to PubMed.

Use My NCBI to store a search strategy that retrieves citations regarding food allergies in infants. Set the strategy up for a monthly e-mail update.

  • Step 1: Type food allergies in the PubMed query box, and click Limits. Under the Ages menu and select All Infant: birth - 23 months. Click Go to run the search.

  • Step 2: PubMed returns the results of your search. Click the Save Search link to the right of the query box. If you do not already have a My NCBI account, register for one now. Enter your My NCBI User Name and Password and click the Sign In button.

  • Step 3: Edit the search name to Food Allergies in Infants. Answer “Yes” to the “Would you like to receive e-mail updates of new search results?” question. Click the OK button.

  • Step 4: The default set up for the e-mail update is a monthly update so we will retain all of the defaults. Click the OK button.

Note: If you did not enter your e-mail address when you initially registered for My NCBI, review the User Preferences portion of this module for instructions on how to add your e-mail address.
