LARGE NUMBER OF REVISED RECORDS DUE TO NEW LANGUAGE CODES
Most of the revised records in today’s update files are due to new codes in the Language element for Serbian (change from scc to srp) and Croatian (change from scr to hrv). The language table at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/language_table.html has been updated to reflect these changes.
UPDATE FILES SCHEDULE IN NOV AND DEC; COMPLETE RELOAD MID-DECEMBER
The final set of new and revised completed records and PMIDs of deleted records for the 2009 production year will be distributed to licensees Wednesday November 18, 2009. Completed records are either in MEDLINE, PubMed-not-MEDLINE, or OLDMEDLINE MedlineCitation status. No update files will be available Thursday and possibly Friday, November 19 and 20.
On Friday or Saturday November 20 or 21, files containing only In-process and In-Data-Review status records, including PMIDs of deleted In Process status records, will export and are scheduled to be available. The last update file containing records in In-process and In-Data-Review status for the 2009 production year will be available on Thursday December 10. Update files will not be available Friday December 11 and Saturday December 12, 2009.
The 2010 MEDLINE/PubMed baseline files are scheduled to be available the afternoon of December 14 to licensees who renew their license per the announcement at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/licensee/announce/2009.html. The baseline files completely replace all previously received records to ensure retention of the most current and accurate versions of the records, per the license agreement. NLM will send an e-mail when the baseline files are available.
Daily update files during the 2010 production year containing new and maintained records in all statuses and PMIDs of deleted records resume after the baseline files are available.

LARGE NUMBER OF REVISED RECORDS
Today’s files contain a large number of revised records. The revision for close to 49,000 of them was to add square brackets surrounding the ArticleTitle "Not Available" when the article is in a language other than English. Non-English language citations contain square brackets around the article title. The affected records do not yet have the English translation of the article title available which is why the title field contains only the words “Not Available".

LARGE NUMBER OF REVISED RECORDS
Two files are exported today containing close to 22,000 revised records. Most of these records are revised due to a retrospective load, since the 2009 baseline files were generated, of the unique identifier (PMCID) of the citation’s full text article or author manuscript that resides in PubMed Central (PMC). The DateRevised value on these records corresponds to the date the record entered the queue for export, not the actual date of the export. The PMCIDs reside in the OtherID element with the Source attribute “NLM”. Export of revised records due to the addition of PMCIDs will no longer be queued; they will be exported on a daily basis, when present.
AUTHOR MANUSCRIPT GRANT DATA IN IN-PROCESS RECORDS
Today’s export includes several In-process status citations which have been edited to add grant number data provided in author manuscripts submitted to PubMed Central (PMC) (background on author manuscripts in PMC is at http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/about/authorms.html). From now on, In-process status citations may be re-exported to add NIH funding agency data in the GrantList group of elements when the author manuscript contains that data. Subsequent exports of revised In-process citations are possible if the Grant data are determined to be incorrect and need to be subsequently changed or deleted. The DateRevised element is not added to revised In-process records.

RETRACTION OF PUBLICATION
It is NLM's policy to add records that are retractions or partial retractions of previously published articles. The value Retraction of Publication is placed in the <PublicationType> element on citations that are retracting an article or part of an article previously indexed in MEDLINE. In addition, these records contain <CommentsCorrections>, <RetractionOf> or <PartialRetractionOf>, and <RefSource>, and <PMID> elements, with the citation and PMID of the article being retracted or partially retracted residing in its <RefSource> and <PMID> elements. Records for the publications being retracted or partially retracted also contain <CommentsCorrections>, <RetractionIn> or <PartialRetractionIn>, <RefSource>, <PMID>, and occasional <Note> elements, with the citation and PMID of the article citing the retraction or partial retraction residing in its <RefSource> and <PMID> elements.

Per Appendix C clause 4 of the License Agreement for NLM Data, licensees whose products/services/applications are not based upon a static version of the data, but rather are updated on a regular or irregular basis are to take reasonable steps to make known dosage errors in abstracts or retracted or partially retracted publications within thirty (30) days from the date such records are distributed by NLM.
This information will also be posted in the MEDLINE/PubMed Update Chart for 2009 at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/licensee/table_rev.html.
RETRACTIONS OF PUBLICATIONS
The following records from the file covered in this message are retractions or partial retractions of publications. The edited versions of these records have not yet been loaded into PubMed. For this reason the records printed below from PubMed today do not reflect their current status as retracted and completed MEDLINE records as is present in the versions of the records in today’s file.

This file contains 11,654 PMIDs of records in MedlineCitation Status = In-Process and MedlineCitation Status = In-Data-Review that have been retained in the 2009 version of PubMed at the time the 2009 baseline files were loaded and that are not exported to licensees in the first batch of update files. These records should eventually be exported in update files as completed records in MedlineCitation Status = MEDLINE or MedlineCitation Status = PubMed-not-MEDLINE, or as deleted PMIDs in DeleteCitationSet. Licensees who wish to create a database as close as possible to the current record content in PubMed may wish to include these records.
Licensees may use the Entrez Utilities to download the records using the list of PMIDs.
IMPORTANT: If you elect to add these records to your version of MEDLINE/PubMed, they must be added either 1) immediately after the baseline files and before any update files or, 2) after update files medline09n0594 through medline09n0626 to ensure retaining the most current version of those records as subsequent update files are loaded. DO NOT add the records identified in SpecialPubMedPMIDList_2009.txt after you have processed medline09n0627 as this may result in retention of an earlier and inaccurate version of the records.
