John Arbuthnot
(16671735)
British physician, writer, and scholar

Physician Extraordinary to England's Queen Anne, John Arbuthnot developed asthma in his early sixties. His medical writings blame London air, overheated rooms, rainy weather, and "viscid (thick, sluggish) blood" for his disease.
