Walter F. Mondale (b. 1928)
Forty-second vice president of the United States of America and ambassador to Japan

A native Minnesotan, Walter Mondale served as attorney general of his state in 1960, then as U.S. senator and, in 1976, as President Jimmy Carter's vice president. Mondale was the first presidential candidate to choose a woman for a running mate, but lost the election in 1984.
