Following John Jacob Abel's discovery of epinephrine, Japanese-born chemist Jokichi Takamine (1854­1922), working independently at his own laboratory in Baltimore, isolated the same hormone, which he called "adrenalin." With Takamine's assistance, Parke Davis & Co. quickly marketed Adrenalin for a variety of ailments.
