Man-made emergencies range from chemical spills and power blackouts to terrorist attacks. What you should do during an emergency will depend on the situation. But there are some general things you can do to prepare. These include

  • Developing a family plan, including a plan for how to get in touch
  • Putting together an emergency kit. This should include a flashlight, a portable radio, a first aid kit, bottled water, canned food and other necessities
  • Finding out about your children's school emergency plan
