Don Francisco's Biography|
Mario Kreutzberger is the host of "Sábado Gigante," one of the most popular programs in the history of Spanish-language television. Known as "Don Francisco," Kreutzberger was born in Chile, where he created the hugely popular television program "Sábado Gigante" (Gigantic Saturday) in 1962. Sábado Gigante branched out to Miami and began airing on WLTV-Channel 23. IN 1986, the program began its national broadcast Univision-TV, and in Latin America on cable network Galavision. In 1992, the "Guinness Book of World Records" named Sábado Gigante the longest running television program in the Americas. In 2002, Kreutzberger launched the weekly talk show "Don Francisco Presenta," on Univision. He has received numerous national and international industry awards. In 2001, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2003, the Chilean government awarded him its prestigious Gabriela Mistral Order of Merit" for his contribution to culture and solidarity in Chile. Since 1978 he has hosted the "TELETON," an annual Chilean national telethon to raise money for hospitals in his native country, to date raising over 150 million dollars. Considered the second most powerful Latino by TV Guide en Español (November 1999), Kreutzberger has been featured in The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The New York Post, The Washington Times, The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald, among many others. He has also been featured on many important TV programs, including "Good Morning America." In 2005, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences recognized Mario Kreutzberger's contributions to the growth of Spanish-language television in the U.S. by awarding him a special Emmy: "Leader of Spanish-Language Television." |
