Té verde


¿Qué es?

El té verde es un producto hecho de la planta Camellia sinensis. Se puede preparar como una bebida, la que puede tener algunos efectos saludables. Se puede también preparar un “extracto” de las hojas para usar como medicina.

El té verde se utiliza para mejorar la agilidad mental y el pensamiento.

También se usa para perder peso y para el tratamiento de trastornos estomacales, para los vómitos, la diarrea, los dolores de cabeza, la pérdida de masa ósea (osteoporosis) y para los cánceres de tumores sólidos.

Algunas personas usan el té verde para prevenir varios tipos de cáncer, incluyendo el cáncer de mamas, el cáncer de próstata, el cáncer del colon, el cáncer gástrico, el cáncer del pulmón, los cánceres de tumores sólidos y el cáncer a la piel debido a la exposición a la radiación solar. Algunas mujeres usan el té verde para luchar contra el virus del papiloma humano (VPH), el que puede producir verrugas genitales, crecimiento de células anormales en la cerviz (displasia cervical) y cáncer cervical.

El té verde también se usa para la enfermedad de Crohn, la enfermedad de Parkinson, para enfermedades del corazón y vasos sanguíneos, para la diabetes, la presión arterial baja, el síndrome de fatiga crónica (SFC), las caries dentales, los cálculos del riñón y para el daño de la piel.

En vez de tomar té verde, algunas personas aplican bolsas de té a la piel para aliviar las quemaduras por el sol y prevenir el cáncer a la piel debido a la exposición solar. Bolsas de té verde también se usan para disminuir la hinchazón debajo de los ojos, como una compresa para los ojos cansados o para el dolor de cabeza y para parar el sangrado después de una extracción de diente.

El té verde en caramelos se usa para las enfermedades de las encías.

El té verde se utiliza como un ungüento para el tratamiento de las verrugas genitales. No confunda el té verde con el té oolong o el té negro. El té oolong y el té negro se hacen de las hojas de la misma planta que se usa para hacer el té verde, pero se preparan en forma diferente y tienen diferentes efectos medicinales. El té verde no es té fermentado. El té oolong es té parcialmente fermentado y el té negro es té completamente fermentado.

  • Las verrugas genitales. Un ungüento específico de extracto de té verde (Veregen, Bradley Pharmaceuticals) está aprobado por la FDA para el tratamiento de las verrugas genitales.
  • Aumentar la agilidad mental, debido al contenido de cafeína en el té verde.

Posiblemente eficaz para...

  • Prevenir los mareos al ponerse de pie (hipotensión ortostática) en las personas mayores.
  • Prevenir el cáncer de la vejiga, del esófago, de los ovarios y del páncreas. Las mujeres que beben té en forma regular, ya sea té verde o té negro, parecen tener un riesgo significativamente más bajo de desarrollar cáncer de los ovarios si se las compara con las mujeres que nunca o muy rara vez toman té. En un estudio, las mujeres que tomaron 2 o más tazas de té verde al día mostraron un 46% menos riesgo de tener cáncer de los ovarios que las mujeres que no tomaron té.
  • Reducir el riesgo o retrasar la aparición de la enfermedad de Parkinson. El tomar de una a cuatro tazas de té verde diarias parece ofrecer la mayor protección contra la aparición de la enfermedad de Parkinson.
  • La presión arterial baja. El té verde podría ser de ayuda para la gente de edad a las que les baja la presión arterial después de comer.
  • Disminuir los niveles altos de grasa, como el colesterol y los triglicéridos, en la sangre (hiperlipidemia).
  • Reducir el crecimiento y desarrollo anormal de células en la cerviz (displasia cervical) producido por la infección con el virus papiloma humano (VPH).

Posiblemente ineficaz para...

  • Prevenir el cáncer del colon.

Insuficiente evidencia para hacer una determinación para...

  • La pérdida de peso. El tomar un extracto de té específico (EGCG) parece ayudar a la gente con sobrepeso moderado a bajar de peso. Pero el té verde no ayuda a la gente a mantener la baja de peso.
  • La presión arterial alta. Algunas investigaciones muestran que el tomar té en forma regular parece disminuir las posibilidades de tener presión arterial alta. Pero no todas las investigaciones están de acuerdo con esto.
  • La prevención de derrame cerebral. De acuerdo a un estudio grande hecho en Japón, el tomar 3 tazas de té verde al día parece disminuir significativamente el riesgo de sufrir un derrame cerebral si se compara con solo tomar una taza o no tomar nada. Las mujeres parecen experimentar un mayor beneficio que los hombres.
  • Huesos débiles (osteoporosis). Las investigaciones hechas en la población en general sugieren que el tomar té verde por 10 años está asociado con huesos más fuertes.
  • Diabetes de tipo 2. El tomar té verde puede ayudar a prevenir la diabetes. Las investigaciones sugieren que los Japoneses adultos que toman 6 o más tazas de té verde al día tienen un 33% de riesgo menor de desarrollar diabetes de tipo 2 si se les compara con aquellos que toman una taza o menos por día. Esto es especialmente cierto en el caso de las mujeres.
  • Cáncer de mamas. El té verde no parece prevenir el cáncer de mamas en la población Asiática. Sin embargo, en la población Asiática-Americana, algunas pruebas sugieren que el tomar té verde podría reducir el riesgo de desarrollar cáncer de mamas. La mayor parte de las investigaciones acerca del té verde y el cáncer de mamas han sido hechas en poblaciones Asiáticas. En las poblaciones Occidentales el efecto del té verde en el riesgo de cáncer de mamas no está claro.
  • Las enfermedades de las encías (gingivitis). El masticar caramelos que contienen extracto de té verde parece controlar la acumulación de placa en los dientes y disminuir la hinchazón de las encías.
  • El cáncer de próstata. Los hombres Chinos que toman más té verde parecen tener un menor riesgo de desarrollar cáncer de la próstata. Mientras más té toman, más baja el riesgo.
  • La diarrea.
  • El síndrome de fatiga crónica (SFC).
  • La prevención de las enfermedades del corazón.
  • Los cálculos renales.
  • El cáncer del pulmón.
  • El cáncer del estómago.
  • El cáncer de la piel.
  • Las caries dentales.
  • Cáncer cervical.
  • Cáncer gástrico.
  • Leucemia.
  • Otras afecciones.
Se necesita más evidencia para poder aprobar al té verde para estos usos.

¿Cómo funciona?

Las partes útiles de la planta de té verde son las yemas, las hojas y el tallo. El té verde es té no fermentado y se elaborara por cocción al vapor de las hojas frescas a altas temperaturas. Durante este proceso, el té verde es capaz de conservar las importantes sustancias químicas llamadas polifenoles que al parecer son las responsables de muchos de los beneficios del té verde.

Los polifenoles podrían ser capaces de prevenir la inflamación e hinchazón, de proteger el cartílago entre los huesos y de disminuir la degeneración de las articulaciones. También parecen ser capaces de combatir las infecciones producidas por el virus papiloma humano (VPH) y disminuir el crecimiento de células anormales en la cerviz (displasia cervical). Las investigaciones realizadas hasta el momento no pueden explicar como funciona esto.

El té verde contiene entre un 2% a 4% de cafeína la que afecta el pensamiento y el estado de alerta, aumenta la producción de orina y puede mejorar el funcionamiento de aquellas sustancias químicas en el cerebro que son importantes en la enfermedad de Parkinson. Se piensa que la cafeína estimula el sistema nervioso, el corazón y los músculos al aumentar la liberación de algunas sustancias químicas en el cerebro llamadas “neurotransmisores”.

Los antioxidantes y otras sustancias químicas en el té verde podrían ayudar a proteger el corazón y vasos sanguíneos.

¿Hay preocupación por la seguridad de su uso?

El té verde es PROBABLEMENTE SEGURO para la mayoría de los adultos. El extracto de té verde es POSIBLEMENTE SEGURO para la mayoría de las personas para uso a corto plazo. En casos poco frecuentes se ha reportado que los extractos de té verde han producido daño al hígado.

Demasiado té verde - más de 5 tazas al día, por ejemplo - POSIBLEMENTE NO ES SEGURO. Puede producir efectos secundarios debido a la cafeína. Estos efectos secundarios pueden oscilar de leves a graves e incluyen dolor de cabeza, nerviosismo, trastornos del sueño, vómitos, diarrea, irritabilidad, ritmo cardíaco irregular, temblores, acidez, mareos, zumbido de oídos, convulsiones y confusión. El té verde parece disminuir la absorción de hierro de los alimentos. El tomar dosis muy altas de té verde puede ser fatal. La dosis de cafeína en el té verde que es fatal se estima que es 10 a 14 gramos (150-200 mg por kilogramo). Grave intoxicación puede ocurrir con dosis menores.

La cafeína es POSIBLEMENTE SEGURA en los niños en las cantidades en las que se encuentra normalmente en los alimentos.

El té verde interactúa con muchos medicamentos, como se explica más adelante.

Advertencias y precauciones especiales:

Embarazo y lactancia: Si está embarazada o amamantando, el té verde en pequeñas cantidades es POSIBLEMENTE SEGURO. No tome más de 2 tazas al día de té verde. Esta cantidad de té proporciona alrededor de 200 mg de cafeína. El consumir más que esta cantidad ha sido vinculado con un mayor riesgo de aborto involuntario y otros efectos negativos. No beba una cantidad excesiva de té verde si está amamntando.

“Sangre cansada” (anemia): El tomar té verde puede empeorar la anemia.

Trastornos de ansiedad: La cafeína en el té verde podría empeorar la ansiedad.

Trastornos de sangrado: La cafeína podría aumentar el riesgo de sangrado. No beba té verde si tiene un trastorno de sangrado.

Problemas cardíacos: La cafeína en el té verde podría producir latidos irregulares del corazón.

Diabetes: La cafeína podría afectar el control de azúcar en la sangre. Si toma té verde y tiene diabetes, controle su azúcar en la sangre cuidadosamente.

Glaucoma: el tomar té verde aumenta la presión adentro de los ojos. El aumento ocurre dentro de 30 minutos y dura por lo menos por 90 minutos.

Presión arterial alta: La cafeína en el té verde podría aumentar la presión arterial en las personas que tienen la presión arterial alta. Sin embargo, esto no parece ocurrir en las personas que normalmente toman té u otros productos que contiene cafeína.

Enfermedad del hígado: Los suplementos de extracto de té verde han sido vinculados con varios casos de daño hepático. El té verde podría empeorar la enfermedad del hígado.

Huesos débiles (osteoporosis): El beber té verde puede aumentar la cantidad de calcia que se elimina en la orina. El uso de la cafeína debería limitarse a 300 mg por día (aproximadamente 2 a 3 tazas de té verde). Es posible compensar algunas pérdidas de calcio provocadas por la cafeína tomando suplementos de calcio.

Anfetaminas
Las drogas estimulantes tales como las anfetaminas aceleran el sistema nervioso. La cafeína en el té verde podría también acelerar el sistema nervioso. Evite tomar drogas estimulantes junto con cafeína.

Cocaína
Las drogas estimulantes tales como la cocaína aceleran el sistema nervioso. Al acelerar el sistema nervioso, los medicamentos estimulantes lo pueden hacer sentir tembloroso y aumentar los latidos del corazón. La cafeína en el té verde podría también acelerar el sistema nervioso. El tomar té verde junto con drogas estimulantes podría causar serios problemas incluyendo un aumento de la frecuencia cardíaca y un aumento de la presión arterial. Evite tomar drogas estimulantes junto con cafeína.

Efedrina
Las drogas estimulantes aceleran el sistema nervioso. Tanto la cafeína (presente en el te verde) como la efedrina son drogas estimulantes. El tomar té verde junto con efedrina podría producir demasiada estimulación y algunas veces serios efectos secundarios y problemas cardíacos. No tome al mismo tiempo productos que contienen cafeína y efedrina.

Adenosina (Adenocard)
El té verde contiene cafeína. La cafeína en el té verde podría bloquear los efectos de la Adenosina (Adenocard). La Adenosina (Adenocard) es utilizada a menudo por los doctores para hacer una prueba del corazón, llamada prueba del esfuerzo cardíaco. Deje de consumir té verde u otros productos que contienen cafeína por lo menos 24 horas antes de una prueba de esfuerzo cardíaco.

Antibióticos (Antibióticos de quinolona)
El cuerpo descompone la cafeína para eliminarla. Algunos antibióticos podrían disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone la cafeína El tomar estos antibióticos junto con té verde puede aumentar el riesgo de tener efectos secundarios tales como temblores, dolor de cabeza, latidos rápidos del corazón y otros efectos secundarios.

Algunos antibióticos que disminuyen la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone la cafeína incluyen ciprofloxacina (Cipro), enoxacina (Penetrex), norfloxacina (Chibroxin, Noroxin), sparfloxacina (Zagam), trovafloxacina (trovan) y grepafloxacina (Raxar).

Bortezomib (Velcade)
El bortezomib (Velcade) se usa para ciertos tipos de cáncer. El té verde podría interactuar con el bortezomib (Velcade) y disminuir su eficacia para el tratamiento de ciertos tipos de cáncer. Si usted toma bortezomib (Velcade) evite tomar productos que contienen té verde.

Cimetidina (Tagamet)
El té verde contiene cafeína. El cuerpo descompone la cafeína para eliminarla. La cimetidina (Tagamet) puede disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone la cafeína. El tomar cimetidina (Tagamet) junto con té verde podría aumentar las posibilidades de tener efectos secundarios debido a la cafeína que incluyen temblores, dolor de cabeza, latidos rápidos del corazón y otros efectos secundarios.

Clozapina (Clozaril)
El cuerpo descompone la clozapina (Clozaril) para eliminarla. La cafeína en el té verde parece disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone la clozapina (Clozaril). El tomar té verde junto con clozapina (Clozaril) puede aumentar los efectos y efectos secundarios de la clozapina (Clozaril).

Dipiridamol (Persantine)
El te verde contiene cafeína. La cafeína en el té verde podría bloquear los efectos del dipiridamol (Persantine). Estrógenos
El cuerpo descompone la cafeína para eliminarla. Los estrógenos pueden disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone la cafeína. El tomar píldoras de estrógeno y tomar té verde puede producir temblores, dolor de cabeza, latidos rápidos del corazón y otros efectos secundarios. Si está tomando píldoras de estrógeno limite el consumo de cafeína.

Algunas de las píldoras de estrógeno incluyen los estrógenos conjugados de origen equino (Premarin), etinil estradiol, estradiol y otros.

Fenilpropanolamina
El té verde contiene cafeína. La cafeína puede estimular el cuerpo. La fenilpropamina también puede estimular el cuerpo. El tomar té verde y fenilpropanolamina juntos podría producir demasiada estimulación y aumentar el ritmo cardíaco, aumentar la presión arterial y producir nerviosismo.

Fluvoxamina (Luvox)
El cuerpo descompone la cafeína para eliminarla. La fluvoxamina (Luvox) puede disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone la cafeína. El tomar té verde junto con fluvoxamina (Luvox) podría aumentar demasiado la cantidad de cafeína en el cuerpo y aumentar los efectos y efectos secundarios de la cafeína.

Litio
El cuerpo elimina el litio en forma natural. La cafeína en el té verde puede aumentar la rapidez con que el cuerpo elimina el litio. Si usted toma productos que contienen cafeína y está tomando litio, deje de tomar de a poco los productos con cafeína. Si deja de tomar cafeína muy rápido pueden aumentar los efectos secundarios producidos por el litio.

Medicamentos para el asma (Agonistas beta-adrenérgicos)
El té verde contiene cafeína. La cafeína puede estimular el corazón. Algunos medicamentos para el asma también pueden estimular el corazón. El tomar cafeína con algunos medicamentos para el asma puede producir demasiada estimulación y causar problemas cardíacos.

Algunos medicamentos para el asma incluyen albuterol (Proventil, Ventolin, Volmax), metaproterenol (Alupent), terbutalina (Bricanyl, Brethine) e isoproterenol (Isuprel).

Medicamentos que pueden dañar el hígado (Fármacos hepatotóxicos)
Los extractos de té verde podrían causar daño al hígado. El tomar extractos de té verde junto con medicamentos que también podrían dañar el hígado puede aumentar el riesgo de daño hepático. No tome extractos de té verde si está tomando un medicamento que puede dañar el hígado.

Algunos medicamentos que pueden producir daño al hígado incluyen acetaminofeno (Tylenol y otros), amiodarona (Cordarone), carbamazepina (Tegretol), isoniazida (INH), metotrexato (Rheumatrex), metildopa (Aldomet), fluconazol (Diflucan), itraconazol (Sporanox), eritromicina (Erythrocin, Ilosone, otras) fenitoina (Dilantin), lovastatina (Mevacor), pravastatina (Pravachol), simvastatina (Zocor) y muchos otros.

Medicamentos que retardan la coagulación sanguínea (Anticoagulantes / fármacos Antiplaquetarios)
El té verde podría retardar la coagulación sanguínea. El tomar té verde junto con medicamentos que también retardan la coagulación podría aumentar las probabilidades de producir hematomas y pérdida de sangre.

Algunos medicamentos que retardan la coagulación sanguínea incluyen ardeparin (Normiflo) aspirina, clopidogrel (Plavix), diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, otros), ibuprofeno (Advil, Motrin, otros), naproxeno (Anaprox, Naprosyn, otros), dalteparina (Fragmin), enoxaparina (Lovenox), heparina, ticlopidina (Ticlid), warfarina (Coumadin) y otros.

Medicamentos que se usan para el tratamiento del cáncer (Inhibidores del proteosoma derivados del ácido borónico)
El té verde podría interactuar con algunos medicamentos que se usan para el tratamiento del cáncer (inhibidores del proteosoma derivados del ácido borónico.) Esto podría disminuir la eficacia de los medicamentos que se usan para el tratamiento de algunos tipos de cáncer. Si usted toma cualquiera de estos medicamentos para el cáncer, evite tomar productos que contienen té verde. Algunos de estos medicamentos incluyen al bortezomib (Velcade).

Nicotina

Pentobarbital (Nembutal)

Píldoras anticonceptivas
El cuerpo descompone la cafeína para eliminarla. Las píldoras anticonceptivas pueden disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone la cafeína. El tomar té verde junto con píldoras anticonceptivas puede producir temblores, dolor de cabeza, latidos rápidos del corazón y otros efectos secundarios.

Algunas de las píldoras anticonceptivas incluyen etinil estradiol y levonorgestrel (Triphasil), etinil estradiol y noretindrona (Ortho-Novum 1/35, Ortho-Novum 7/7/7) y otras.

Riluzol (Rilutek)
El cuerpo descompone el riluzol (Rilutek) para eliminarlo. El tomar té verde puede disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone el riluzol (Rilutek) y aumentar los efectos y efectos secundarios del riluzol (Rilutek).

Teofilina
El té verde contiene cafeína. La cafeína funciona en forma similar a la teofilina. La cafeína puede disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo elimina la teofilina. El tomar té verde junto con teofilina podría aumentar los efectos y efectos secundarios de la teofilina.

Verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan)
El cuerpo descompone la cafeína en el té verde para eliminarla. El verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan) puede disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo elimina la cafeína. El tomar té verde y tomar verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan) puede aumentar los riesgos de sufrir efectos secundarios debido a la cafeína que incluyen temblores, dolor de cabeza, aumento de los latidos del corazón y otros efectos.

Warfarina
La warfarina (Coumadin) se usa para retardar la coagulación sanguínea. Se ha reportado que grandes cantidades de té verde disminuyen la eficacia de la warfarina (Coumadin). Al disminuir la eficacia de la warfarina (Coumadin) podría aumentar el riesgo de formación de coágulos. No está claro por que podría ocurrir esta interacción. Asegúrese de controlar su sangre regularmente. La dosis de su warfarina (Coumadin) podría necesitar ser cambiada.

Alcohol

Fluconazol (Diflucan)
El té verde contiene cafeína. El cuerpo descompone la cafeína para eliminarla. El fluconazol (Diflucan) podría disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo elimina la cafeína y hace que la cafeína permanezca en el cuerpo por mucho tiempo. El tomar fluconazol (Diflucan) junto con té verde podría aumentar el riesgo de tener efectos secundarios tales como nerviosismo, ansiedad e insomnio.

Medicamentos para la diabetes (Antidiabéticos)
El té verde contiene cafeína. Hay resultados conflictivos acerca del efecto de la cafeína en el nivel del azúcar en la sangre; puede aumentarlo o disminuirlo. Los medicamentos para la diabetes se usan para bajar el azúcar en la sangre. El tomar algunos medicamentos para la diabetes junto con cafeína podría disminuir la eficacia de los medicamentos para la diabetes. Controle de cerca su nivel de azúcar en la sangre. Puede que sea necesario cambiar la dosis de su medicamento para la diabetes.

Algunos de los medicamentos usados para la diabetes incluyen glimepirida (Amaryl), gliburida (Diabeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulina, pioglitazona (Actos), rosiglitazona (Avandia), clorpropamida (Diabinese), glipizida (Glucotrol), tolbutamida (Orinase) y otros.

Mexiletino (Mexitil)
El té verde contiene cafeína. El cuerpo descompone la cafeína para eliminarla. El mexiliteno (Mexitil) puede disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo descompone la cafeína. El tomar mexiliteno (Mexitil) junto con té verde podría aumentar los efectos y efectos secundarios de la cafeína en el té verde.

Terbinafina (Lamisil)
El cuerpo descompone la cafeína en el té verde para eliminarla. La terbinafina (Lamisil) puede disminuir la rapidez con que el cuerpo elimina la cafeína. Acido fólico
Hay cierta preocupación de que el té verde podría disminuir la actividad del ácido fólico, dejando al cuerpo con una cantidad menor de ácido fólico que la que necesita.

Creatina
Hay cierta preocupación de que el combinar cafeína, efedra y creatina podría aumentar el riesgo de serios efectos secundarios no deseados. Un atleta que, para mejorar su rendimiento, usó esta combinación junto con otros suplementos sufrió un derrame cerebral. Hay preocupación por los investigadores de que el derrame cerebral podría haber sido producido por los suplementos.

Efedra (Ma Huang)
No tome té verde con efedra. La cafeína en el té verde podría aumentar los efectos de la efedra. El usar efedra con cafeína podría aumentar el riesgo de tener problemas graves que amenazan la vida o producen incapacitación tales como la hipertensión, un ataque al corazón, un derrame cerebral, convulsiones y muerte.

Hierbas y suplementos que contienen cafeína
El té verde contiene cafeína. El usar té verde junto con otras hierbas y suplementos que contienen cafeína podría aumentar los efectos de la cafeína y al mismo tiempo aumentar los no deseados efectos secundarios. Algunos de lo productos naturales que contienen cafeína incluyen el café, el te negro, el te oolong, el guaraná, el mate, la cola y otras.

Hierbas y suplementos que pueden dañar el hígado
En varios casos, las personas que tomaron té verde sufrieron daño hepático. Los investigadores se preocupan de que el daño podría estar vinculado al té verde. El tomar extracto de té verde junto con otras hierbas y suplementos que podrían dañar el hígado podría aumentar el riesgo de daño al hígado. Otros productos que pueden afectar al hígado en forma adversa incluyen biznaga, borraja, chaparral, uva ursi y otras.

Hierro
El té verde podría disminuir la absorción de los suplementos de hierro. Para la mayoría de la gente, este efecto no es suficientemente grande como para producir una diferencia en la salud. Pero sería recomendable que las personas que no tienen suficiente hierro en su cuerpo tomen té verde entre las comidas y no junto con las comidas para así disminuir el efecto de esta interacción.

Naranja amarga
La naranja amarga si se usa con cafeína o hierbas que contienen cafeína como el té verde, puede aumentar la presión arterial y el ritmo cardíaco aún en las personas que están sanas. Esto podría dañar el corazón y los vasos sanguíneos.

Hierro
El té verde parece disminuir la absorción de hierro de los alimentos.

Leche
El agregar leche al té verde parece disminuir algunos de los beneficios del té para el corazón y vasos sanguíneos. La leche podría unirse a los antioxidantes e impedir su absorción. Pero hay controversia acerco de esto. Se necesita hacer más investigación para determinar realmente cuan importante es esta interacción.

Las siguientes dosis han sido estudiadas en investigaciones científicas:

COMO UNA BEBIDA:
Las dosis de té verde varían en forma significativa, pero generalmente están en el rango de 1 a 10 tazas al día. La dosis que se usa está basada en la cantidad típicamente consumida en los países Asiáticos, la que es alrededor de 3 tazas por día, que proveen entre 240 a 320 mg de polifenoles que son los ingredientes activos. Para preparar el té, la gente típicamente usa 1 cucharadita de hojas de té en 8 onzas de agua hirviendo.
  • Para dolor de cabeza o para mantenerlo alerto: Se toma una cantidad de té que proporcione hasta 250 mg de cafeína al día, o aproximadamente 3 tazas al día.
  • Para mejorar el pensamiento: Tome una cantidad de té que proporcione 60 mg de cafeína, o aproximadamente 1 taza.
  • Para bajar el colesterol: El beber 10 o más tazas de té por día ha sido asociado con niveles reducidos de colesterol. Para bajar el colesterol también se ha usado 375 mg diarios de un extracto de té verde enriquecido con Theaflavina que se toma por 12 semanas.
  • Para las infecciones de la cerviz debidas al virus del papiloma humano (VPH): Se toman 200 mg diarios de un extracto de té verde solo o en combinación con ungüento de té verde por 8 a 12 semanas.
  • Para prevenir la enfermedad de Parkinson:
    • Los hombres que consumen entre 421 a 2716 mg de cafeína total diarias (aproximadamente entre 5 a 33 tazas de té verde) tienen el menor riesgo de desarrollar la enfermedad de Parkinson. Sin embargo, un riesgo significativamente menor también está asociado con el consumo de tan poco como 124 a 208 mg de cafeína (aproximadamente 1 a 3 tazas de té verde) al día.
    • En las mujeres: El consumo de cantidades más moderadas de cafeína parece ser mejor, equivalente a aproximadamente 1 a 4 tazas de té verde por día.
COMO UN UNGÜENTO:
  • Para las infecciones de la cerviz debidas al virus del papiloma humano (VPH): Se usa el ungüento de té verde solo o en combinación con extracto de té verde por vía oral y se usa 2 veces a la semana por 8 a 12 semanas.
