As Breast Cancer Awareness month winds down, some good news. Despite the stark reality of a breast cancer diagnosis, women say they can also learn and grow from it.
This is being reported by Wake Forest researchers, who found this post-traumatic psychological growth in a group of 653 women. Their study tracked the group for approximately two years through multiple surveys.
Over that time, participants reported:
Positive personal growth increased over time, but the largest changes occurred in the first few months after diagnosis, Strong social support from friends, family and physicians helped.
