Beginning with 2010 MeSH, two of the DTDs for the main MeSH XML files will have the following changes:
1. SCRClass
For Supplementary Concept Records (SCRs) the DTD supp2010.dtd will include SCRClass as an attribute of the <SupplementalRecord> element:
<!ATTLIST SupplementalRecord SCRClass (1 | 2 | 3) "1">
The possible values are:
1 = Regular chemical or substance (the most common type)
2 = Protocol, for example, FOLFOXIRI protocol
3 = Rare disease, for example, Canicola fever
All 2009 SCRs will be Chemical Class = 1 or 2. Records having value 3 may be included in 2010 and later versions of MeSH.
2. LanguageCode
All three DTDs - supp2010.dtd, Descriptor desc2010.dtd, and Qualifier qual2010.dtd - will include LanguageCode as an attribute of the <DescriptorRecordSet>, <SupplementalRecordSet>, and <QualifierRecordSet> elements:
<!ATTLIST DescriptorRecordSet LanguageCode (cze|dut|eng|fin|fre|ger|ita|jpn|lav|por|scr|slv|spa) #REQUIRED>
The value for the available XML data will be 'eng'. Other abbreviations will be used primarily by institutions that translate MeSH into their own language.
3. <TranslatorsScopeNote>, <TranslatorsEnglishScopeNote>,
The Descriptor DTD desc2010.dtd will have two new elements, which are similar in content to the existing <ScopeNote>. However, they will not be used primarily for English MeSH. Rather they will be used by institutions that translate MeSH into their own language and add concepts of their own for their own use. They are added to the regular English MeSH XML primarily to reduce the number of different MeSH DTDs to be maintained.
3. 1 <TranslatorsScopeNote>
For institutions that translate MeSH into their own language. Translation of an existing <ScopeNote> into a non-English translator's language. It is also used for new concepts introduced by a translator in their own language.
3.2 <TranslatorsEnglishScopeNote>
For institutions that translate MeSH into their own language. The translator's English scope note for a new concept which the translators themselves have introduced.
4. <TermNote>
For institutions that translate MeSH into their own language. Internal notes about a given term for future reference by the translators. Free text format.
