Jim Case joined the Medical Subject Headings Section in January 2010. He received his M.S. degree in Genetics from Stanford University and his D.V.M. and Ph.D (comparative pathology) from UC Davis. He is joining the MeSH section as a Health Programs Specialist, with principal duties of representing NLM and advising NLM on issues relating to the adoption and further development of SNOMED-CT.

Jim spent 25 years as a Professor of Clinical Diagnostic Informatics with the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis, where he taught in the areas of epidemiological data management and geographic information systems. His past research activities included mitochondrial genetics, molecular and immunologic studies of avian viruses and spatial and temporal analysis of laboratory derived animal health data. He has been active in the field of health data standards for over 15 years and previously acted as the chief messaging architect for the National Animal Health Laboratory Network.
