Notes:
The end result is a Metathesaurus which is organized by concept, containing many different vocabularies in a common format.
We try to explicitly represent and respect what each source means by a term,
so that even though terms may appear identical, if they don’t mean the same, they are not in the same concept.
For example, in the ICD there is the string “prostate”.
From the context what is meant is carcinoma of the prostate.
From other sources there is the string prostate, meaning the gland.
These do represent two concepts, and are handled accordingly in the Metathesaurus.
Also of note is that we try to show exactly where any piece of information came from. Not every assertion by a vocabulary is one that we deem valid, but we do show that this is asserted by the vocabulary.
