Here is the results of a comparison search. The search on the right was done just using a single term, kidney failure.
The search on the left, also done on the same search engine, was done using all of the synonyms for kidney failure in the Metathesaurus.
It may be hard to see, but it appears that the results on the left are much more specific and to the point, while those on the right are less so.
