Allan Savage: A Farewell Gathering
After almost 24 years at the National Library of Medicine, Allan Savage retired on June 30, 2011. A farewell gathering was held in the MeSH Office to celebrate his retirement.
Allan joined the MeSH Section in 1988 following a year as an NLM Associate. For the past 23 years he has served as the technical editor of MeSH content and was involved in the creation and maintenance of subject headings in most disciplines, with special emphasis on virology, taxonomy, and anatomy.
Prior to entering the information field, Allan was a full-time chess professional and holds the titles of U.S. Life Master and International Master of correspondence chess. His retirement will allow him to return to his first love, playing, teaching, and writing about chess.
The MeSH Section thanks him for his years of service at the NLM and wishes him the best in his retirement.
