Photo of the Raven and Sun Bench in the National Library of Medicine's Herb Garden
Raven and the Sun: The carvings on this bench, entitled Raven and the Sun, depict a story from the Salish people of the northwestern United States and British Columbia. The story explains how Raven delivered the sun, moon, stars, and fire to humanity. These treasures are necessary for human survival, but came at a cost of Raven's suffering. This totem bench was carved by Jewell James of the House of Tears Carvers, Lummi Nation, Bellingham, WA.
