AD 1620: Pequot trade for iron pots to cook traditional foods

The Pequot, who live near what is now known as the Mystic River in Connecticut, get food from the rich plant and animal life in nearby swamps. Through trade, they obtain European iron cooking pots, which are stronger than the pottery the tribe makes. The population of 6,000 is prosperous. They frame their wigwams (houses) with saplings and cover them with sheets of bark to keep out wind, rain, and snow, and they build fences to shield villages from predatory animals.
