1834: Muscogee Creek are forced out of Alabama

The U.S. Department of War forcibly removes the remaining 20,000 Muscogee Creek from Alabama to Indian Territory (now known as Oklahoma). The Treaty of Cusseta, signed in 1832, divided Muscogee Creek land into individual allotments, which the recipient could either sell or retain. Land speculators defraud many members of the tribe, but when the Muscogee Creek respond violently, all 20,000 are marched to Indian Territory.
