1924: Medical division established in Office of Indian Affairs

The Office of Indian Affairs creates a separate medical division to administer the growing number of federal programs and dollars aimed at improving American Indian health. Infectious epidemics remain major causes of death among American Indians, and tribes look to the new division to provide doctors and medicine to their reservations.
