1930: The O‘ahu Insane Asylum closes

The O‘ahu Insane Asylum, opened by King Kamehameha IV in 1866 on the Iolani Palace grounds in Honolulu, provided long-term care for psychiatric patients. When it closes, patients are moved to Kane‘ohe Territorial Hospital on the opposite side of the island of O‘ahu.
