1989: Alaska Natives more likely than other Alaskans to die young

The Alaska Federation of Natives releases “The AFN Report on the Status of Alaska Natives: A Call for Action.” It finds Alaska Natives are far more likely “than other Alaskans to be poor or out of work; to live in unsafe conditions; to lack the education needed for better-paying jobs; and to suffer many effects of alcohol abuse. Alaska Natives [are] also more likely to die young and violently.”
