2004: University establishes department to promote Native Hawaiian health

The University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents establishes the Department of Native Hawaiian Health as part of the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. The department’s mission is “to be a center of excellence in education, research and quality health care practices committed to the optimal health and wellness of Hawai‘i Maoli (Native Hawaiian people), their families and communities that embraces traditional Hawaiian values and practices.”
