1922: Report identifies Native Hawaiian medicinal plants

D. M. Kaaiakmanu and J. K. Akina, employees of the the Board of Health for the Territory of Hawai‘i, produce a catalog of medicinal plants, “Hawaiian Herbs of Medicinal Value,” based on research among Native Hawaiian healers. The compilation is written in the Hawaiian language and translated by Akako Akana. The report focuses on plants that are either curative or palliative (for relief of pain and other discomfort).
