1939: Hawaiian Bureau of Mental Hygiene is established

Acting on a study funded by the Honolulu Chamber of Commerce, the territorial legislature of Hawai‘i funds the Bureau of Mental Hygiene and places it under Hawai‘i’s Board of Health. The bureau provides public education about mental health and outpatient services. Among those served are children.
