Phase Two: Finding the Information
Q11. What are the most important tools that librarians and researchers use to find the grey literature?
Suggested Solution
The grey literature are documents that are generally not picked up by the large indexing services; however, the New York Academy of Medicine Library offers access to the Grey Literature Report quarterly and to the grey literature in its catalog (Grey Lit, 2001).
You will also find the New York Academy of Medicine Library's Grey Literature Producing Organizations useful. It offers a list of numerous associations, think tanks, organizations, businesses, agencies and other entities that produce grey literature. Reviewing the sites can offer access to related information, too.
LocatorPlus lists grey literature reports.
Another valuable resource, mentioned previously, is the National Library of Medicine's Disaster Lit: Resource Guide for Public Health Preparedness. This site contains links to protocols, guidelines, planning documents, best practices, presentations and conference documents, assessment tools, Web casts, reports and surveys.
