| Using the published Cause of Death Table |
|
|
Printed sources are static. Here is the cause of death table from the National Vital Statistics System.
- To use the printed version, researchers need to search the table stub [i.e. row names], headings [column names], titles and explanatory text and headings.
- Downloading it as an electronic document makes it possible to use search routines to find the information you need.
- The Internet site provides access to a spreadsheet that can be manipulated allowing the researcher to recalculate the indicators in a way that matches their questions.
While this is not the same as processing the original data records, it does make it possible to transform results so that they are more useful.
