  Bioethics Citations Added to PubMed®

graphic of drop cap letter A pproximately 22,600 bioethics-related journal citations unique to the former BIOETHICSLINE® database are now in MEDLINE® and can be searched in PubMed. Also, approximately 26,300 bioethics-related MEDLINE journal citations were revised by NLM to include the special features of a BIOETHICSLINE record including keywords and other abstracts.

For these citations, there are additional data fields that are not yet searchable in PubMed (e.g., Keyword). We will announce when the additional data fields are searchable in a forthcoming article. For now, these fields are included in the PubMed XML display format. Please see the NLM Technical Bulletin article Space Life Sciences and Bioethics - New PubMed® Subsets in this issue for information on searching the PubMed Bioethics subset.

As NLM continues to reorganize its bibliographic databases, the migration of these specialized citations to MEDLINE provides users with continued access to bioethics-related information. Please see the May-June 2000 NLM Technical Bulletin article Organization of National Library of Medicine Bibliographic Databases for more information on the reorganization of bibliographic databases.

NLM encourages those of you who have not yet tried the "one-stop-shopping" offered by the NLM Gateway to give it a try. See the Gateway Overview, available from the Gateway sidebar, for more information.

Note to PubMed Cubby Users: Since they are new to MEDLINE and PubMed, the 22,600 bioethics-related journal citations unique to the former BIOETHICSLINE database may be pulled by a Cubby stored search using terms in this subject area.
