Authority
The Veterinary Extension to SNOMED CT (VetSCT) is maintained in trust for the veterinary community by the Veterinary Terminology Services Laboratory (VTSL) at the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia.

Purpose
VetSCT aims to support veterinary medicine and public health by providing standardized terminology that meets the needs of the veterinary community while remaining inter-operable with SNOMED CT and human medicine.

Description
VetSCT is an authorized, formal extension to SNOMED CT which provides content of veterinary importance as well as terms (descriptions) used by veterinarians that are not commonly used in human health.

Audience
The audience for VetSCT includes the veterinary and public health communities.

Update Frequency
VetSCT is updated in April and October of each year.

Metathesaurus Update Frequency
This is a new source in the 2014AA release.
