FAQ
LocatorPlus Records Contain the 95x Field Tag

Question: Why does NLM have the 950 (95x) subject heading field tags in its LocatorPlus records?
Answer:
  • - The field tag 95x identifies a subject heading in imported records not assigned by NLM.

  • - All 65x subject headings in imported records are changed to 95x so that they are not indexed along with MeSH descriptors assigned by NLM. This includes MeSH descriptors assigned to a title by a library other than NLM and Library of Congress subject headings (LCSH).

  • - Currently, 95x subject headings are deleted when NLM cataloging is completed. In process records or records cataloged in the late 1990s may contain 95x fields which are changed back to 65x when the record is exported.
