The National Library of Medicine (NLM) works with the Baltimore Cochrane Center and the New England Cochrane Center (NECC) to improve access to clinical trials information in MEDLINE®. The NECC coordinates the ongoing efforts of various Cochrane Centers, Review Groups, and others collaborating to identify citations to be enhanced and annually gives this information to NLM.
Since 1995, the NLM retrospectively assigns specific Publication Type (PT) values of RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL or CONTROLLED CLINICAL TRIAL to MEDLINE journal citations.
It is difficult to predict exactly when this project will be completed. Please see the NLM Technical Bulletin(http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/techbull/tb.html) beginning with the 1995 Mar-Apr;(283) issue and subsequent yearly indexes through 1999 for more description of NLM-NECC collaborative activities in past years.
