How to Use Cosmo, the NLM Virtual Representative

I will point you to links where you can find answers to your questions. I can't give you a specific answer to your question. My "brain" isn't that big!

How Do I Work Best?

Ask one simple question in a sentence. For example:
• Are you open on Thanksgiving?
• Can I borrow books from the National Library of Medicine?
• How do I use PubMed?
• Do you have information about NLM Grants?
• What is Down Syndrome?
• What are the side effects of acetaminophen?

Why can't you answer my question?

1. I can't answer questions about personal medical cases, diagnose symptoms, or suggest drugs or treatments.
• If you ask about a disease or a condition, I link to our MedlinePlus health pages.
• If you ask about a drug, I link to our MedlinePlus drug information or to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Web site.

2. Did you spell everything correctly?
• You can use our Medical Dictionary.

3. I can only answer questions about National Library of Medicine products and services. For example
• If you want information about a clinical trial, I link you to the Clinicaltrials.gov resource information.
• If you want to know about what we have in our collection, I link you to our catalog.
• If you want to search for a scientific journal article, I link you to PubMed Quick Start.

If you need more information than I can give, contact our Customer Services staff.
