Letter from Caspar Coiner Henkel to his father Dr. Samuel Godfrey Henkel. 3 pages. February 23, 1863. Correspondence.

Caspar Henkel, a surgeon in the Confederate Army, refers to the recent battle at Fredericksburg, Virginia in this letter to his father. He writes of the situation in the surrounding countryside and speculates about Union army movements both in his own vicinity and in the New Market area, where his father lives. He also provides some news about friends and relatives in the military, and comments on the burden of working as a surgeon in the field.

From the Henkel Family Correspondence, 1786-1940. Modern Manuscripts Collection [MS C 291].
