“Improving the quality of care for patients is tied to the business of health care. All of us, physicians and clinicians, have a mission to improve the care our patients receive, and to do that you have to step up to the plate and confront the business of medicine and push for the best quality care.”

“INFLUENTIAL IN THE BUSINESS OF HEALTH CARE FOR ALL”

BIOGRAPHY

In an era when the business side of health care impacts the practice of medicine from the doctor's waiting room to the emergency room, Pam Hudson has fought to bring quality health care to North Alabama, an area she has lived and worked in for more than twenty years.

As one of a small number of women physicians in upper management in her area, she is Chief Operating Officer, and Ethics and Compliance Officer at Crestwood Medical Center, in Huntsville. Prior executive positions since 1988 include being Associate Administrator and Chief Medical Officer, and Chief of Emergency Medicine.

In nominating her to be Local Legend, Rep Bud Cramer (D-ALA-5), said, "Dr. Hudson has influenced and enhanced the practice of medicine by utilizing her physician's compassion for patients to impact the business side of health care. Her career has been characterized by giving back to her North Alabama community through her person talents and strengths. Her advocacy for quality local healthcare has enriched the community and people she serves."

A 1983 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Hudson began her career with a Family Practice Internship and residency at the school of Primary Medical Care at the University of Alabama, in Huntsville. Inspired by her father's passion for athletics (in his 70s, he remains an active ice-hockey player!), she also served as team physician for all athletes at the university. During her last year of residency, as Chief Resident, she named the Outstanding Resident in Pediatrics, the first of many awards to come.

Active and committed to her local community, Dr. Hudson is on the Board of Directors for the Community Free Clinic, the Employer's Coalition of Healthcare Options, the National Children's Advocacy Center and the North Alabama Rehabilitation Foundation. In her spare time, she also contributes as a member of the Women's Economic Development Council, sings with the Huntsville Community Chorus-and manages being the mother of two adopted children, one from the People's Republic of China and the other from Kazakhstan.

In September 2004, Crestwood Medical Center was accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the world's leading, independent evaluator of quality and safety of care delivered by health organizations. Crestwood COO Hudson was understandably proud of this newest honor.
