Expediting Access to Results of Federally Funded Research
NLM stands ready to support NIH’s implementation of updated policy guidance issued by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) through NLM’s PubMed Central (PMC) and other relevant data repositories.
PMC is NLM's free full-text archive of biomedical and life-sciences journal literature. PMC provides free public access to journal articles subject to the current NIH Public Access Policy, as well as policies of other major HHS agencies (AHRQ, CDC, FDA), and other Federal agencies. PMC also contributes to efforts to improve access to related data: accepting small datasets published with articles and linking, where possible, to data in other widely used repositories.
NLM supports public accountability and open science, and will work with NIH and other federal agency partners to support their revised public access plans. NLM will also continue to work across the library, information science, and scholarly communications communities to develop innovative ways to support the updated policy and advance the effective stewardship of research data.
At this time, NIH policy and PMC submission practices remain unchanged. PMC will continue to accept and provide public access to journal literature consistent with current policy requirements.
