NLM Research Finds Maintenance Drugs for Common Chronic Diseases Associated with Lower Risk of Severe COVID-19
According to a recent study in the journal PLOS One by members of the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications, part of the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, the use of medications for common chronic diseases—such as high blood pressure and cholesterol—were found to be associated with a lower risk of contracting and dying from COVID-19. The study used de-identified data from over 370,000 Medicare patients diagnosed with COVID-19, accessed through the Virtual Research Data Center of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
