January 29 Proclaimed Go Local Kansas Day

Governor Kathleen Sebelius proclaimed January 29, 2009, as Go Local Kansas Day and encouraged people in the state to visit the newly-launched Go Local Kansas Web site to find local health resources.

The Go Local Kansas Web site (www.golocalkansas.org) makes it easier and simpler for people to find health care services close to home. People can search for resources by location, by the type of facility or service, or by a specific disease or condition.

Librarians from Dykes Library at the University of Kansas Medical Center, the State Library of Kansas, public libraries, and the Kansas Regents libraries contributed to the site.

Go Local is an initiative of the National Library of Medicine, part of the National Institutes of Health. With today's launch of Go Local Kansas, and the launch of Go Local Montana earlier this month, there are now more than 30 Go Local (link to http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/golocal/index.html) sites, reaching over 40% of the U.S. population. More sites are in the works.
