Introduction to Health Services Research : A Self-Study Course

Module 3: Selected Players (Federal and Private) (Page 25 of 27)

In Summary

In this module you have had a chance to learn more about the many governmental and non-governmental organizations that conduct health services research.

Academic departments, private foundations and associations, government agencies, and business organizations all have a vested interest in issues such as policy and changes in policy, how the health care system is functioning, including who is or is not gaining access to care, legislation at all levels of government, grant funding and related topics in the health services arena.

Keep in mind that new players come onto the scene on a regular basis. "Old" players may stay in their existing format or change emphases or names. Librarians and researchers need to be alert to changes and keep informed of changes in the health care system through the many alerting services and e-newsletters that are made available for signing up for on the these organization's Web sites.

Before you go to the next module which introduces you to "Searching the Literature of Health Services Research," you might want to examine the Enrichment Section for additional information on entities mentioned in this Module.
