NLM® Classification Fundamentals

Classification (Class) Numbers

Table G/Geographic Notation

Applying Table G

Supply a "Table G" geographic cutter for all classification numbers that are annotated (Table-G) in the schedules and the geographic aspect is emphasized in the work being cataloged. For every number in the schedule annotated "Table-G," there is a corresponding number annotated (Not Table-G) that is used for works on the same topic that have no geographic emphasis.

Example

WG 11 History (Table-G) is the number for the history of cardiology in particular geographic areas and WG 11.1 General coverage (Not Table-G) is the number for books with general coverage of the history of cardiology.

For further guidance for applying "Table G" geographic cutter numbers to specific cases like Historical Geographic Locations, United States Government Publications, Serial Documents, Military Hospitals, and local modifications, refer to the NLM Policy on Classification or the Table G Practices webpage.
