MedlinePlus Genetics contains information originally created for NLM’s Genetics Home Reference resource. Launched in 2003, the Genetics Home Reference website was developed in response to the recent mapping of the human genome and to provide consumer-friendly genetic information to the public. In 2020, Genetics Home Reference was integrated into MedlinePlus.
The genetics section of MedlinePlus includes thousands of pages about genetics, genetic conditions, and the genes or chromosomes related to those conditions. As genetic research continues, the MedlinePlus Genetics section is regularly updated to reflect new discoveries and understanding.
