The RxNorm April monthly release became available for download on Monday, April 6, 2020 and includes the investigational drug remdesivir and two new dose forms: Delayed Release Oral Granules and Inhalation Spray.

Investigational Drugs in RxNorm (Reminder)

In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) a pandemic. Because of this significant public health concern, we reexamined the scope of RxNorm. As a result, the April 2020 release of RxNorm contained the following investigational drug information:

• Ingredient (IN): remdesivir (RXCUI 2284718); and
• Semantic Clinical Drug (SCD): remdesivir 100 MG Injection (RXCUI 2284960)

Dose Form Changes

Two new dose forms were added to the April 2020 release. The new dose forms are Delayed Release Oral Granules and Inhalation Spray.

Inhalation Spray and Metered Dose Inhaler are both valid RxNorm dose forms. For certain medications, Inhalation Spray replaced the Metered Dose Inhaler dose form while retaining the same RXCUI. Here are the new prescribable drug names where Inhalation Spray replaced Metered Dose Inhaler:
