RxNorm Data Changes

New Qualitative Distinction: Niacinamide

We have added a new Qualitative Distinction (Niacinamide) to differentiate insulin analogs Fiasp and NovoLog. Fiasp is the faster acting of the two.

Previously, all Fiasp and NovoLog products shared three SCDs:

  • 3 ML insulin aspart, human 100 UNT/ML Cartridge
  • 3 ML insulin aspart, human 100 UNT/ML Pen Injector
  • insulin aspart, human 100 UNT/ML Injectable Solution

The new QD is applied to SCDs and SBDs for Fiasp, but existing RXCUIs have been retained. SCDs and SBDs for other insulin products without niacinamide are unchanged.
