This technique has been applied to a number of 3D VHP
surfaces created in IsoView. Figure
1 illustrates the venous system of the abdominal cavity in red/blue
stereo. This stereo image, when viewed with anaglyph glasses, illustrates
the complex 3D relationships between different branches of the venous tree.
Although it is possible to visualize these branches without rendering them
in stereo, it would be more difficult and require more time to recognize
the named branches that make up this structure.
Figure 2 illustrates
a recently described muscle-dural connection between the Rectus Capitus
Posterior Minor (RCPM) and the dura [3].
The 3D stereo image adds significant information as to the exact anatomical
relationship of the connection to the surrounding musculature and spinal
dura. These insights are important to surgeons operating in the subocciptal
region. Moreover, these images can be used to improve surgical approaches
to this region.
