Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). This agency is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Data resources include the Healthcare Cost & Utilization Project (HCUP) and the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS).

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The CMS is the part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that administers Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI). This is an independent, nonprofit organization that collects data and provides information on health care costs and utilization.

Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF). This independent, non-profit organization focuses on major health issues in the U.S. and internationally, analyzing policies and providing data. Topics of interest include health care reform, health costs, and health insurance coverage.

CMS: Cost Reports. Baltimore: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; 1994 - . CMS created this cost report using data reported by Medicare Administrative Contractors to the Healthcare Cost Report Information System (HCRIS). Renal dialysis facilities, hospitals, hospices, clinics, and home health agencies are some of the cost reports available here.

CMS Fact sheets: HHS RELEASES HOSPITAL DATA ON CHARGE VARIATION TO PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY. (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services). This May 8, 2013 press release describes details of new data on hospital charges. This annual lists the usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) fees at 50%, 75%, and 90% levels, Medicare fee schedule, and Medicare relative value unit (RVU) for procedures organized by CPT code. Medicare Provider Charge Data (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services). Data represent inpatient charges for the 100 most common inpatient services and outpatient charges for 30 common outpatient services for Calendar Year 2011. Data available in Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) format and comma separated values (.csv) format.
