National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES), US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is a program of studies designed to assess the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the US. It is a major US health survey that includes interviews covering demographic, socioeconomic, dietary, and health-related questions. NHANES also has an examination component consisting of medical, dental, physiological measurements, and laboratory tests administered by trained medical personnel.
US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Data and Statistics. The USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) develops and promotes dietary guidance that links scientific research to nutrition needs of consumers. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) administers 15 federal nutrition assistance programs that provide children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet, and nutrition education. The USDA also publishes the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference (Release 28. Washington (DC): Department of Agriculture (US); 2015 Sep., slightly revised May 2016). Major source of food composition data in the United States. Search by food item, group, or list, to find nutrient values. The database includes more than 8,700 food items and more than 140 food components.
