CONFLICT AND COMPROMISE

In 1939, former pacifist Albert Einstein signed a letter to President Franklin Roosevelt urging him to support research into an atomic bomb. After the devastation caused by the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki he renounced nuclear weapons.
