NLM Adopts New Policy on NIH Clinical Alerts
Posting Findings on NLM Website Will Expedite Distribution
The National Library of Medicine has made new arrangements with
the NIH Institutes to receive Web-based clinical alerts as they are
issued.
Clinical alerts are provided to expedite the release of findings
from NIH-funded clinical trials where such release could
significantly affect morbidity and mortality.
Since NLM implemented this policy change, it has already received
clinical alerts from:
- the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (on the
suspension of trials using a high blood pressure drug); and
- the National Institute Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin
Diseases (on the merits of another drug in treating children and
teenagers with juvenile and rheumatoid arthritis).
Links to the NIH Clinical Alerts are on the NLM Web site at www.nlm.nih.gov/databases/alerts/clinical_alerts.html.
Links to this page are also available from NLM search systems like
PubMed and Internet Grateful Med. Also, NLM will retain an archival
copy of each alert for reference purposes. |
