BIOETHICSLINE Regenerated

The BIOETHICS file was regenerated in mid-April 1998, at the same time that the 9804 (EM) BIOETHICS Update went online. This year's regeneration introduces:

  • Twenty-five 1998 Bioethics Thesaurus Keywords;
  • Two 1998 BIOETHICS Publication Types;
  • 1998 MeSH (as generated by "maps" from Bioethics Thesaurus Keywords);
  • Date formats that accommodate Year 2000 4-digit years for ranging (as well as 2-digit years for direct searches).
New 1998 Keywords and Publication Types
Following is a list of the 25 new 1998 Bioethics Thesaurus Keywords. These are Keyword Descriptors, searchable with either (KW) or (KWD) as a qualifier:

1998 Keyword Annotations Available on the Web
http://www.georgetown.edu/research/nrcbl/ Annotations for the 1998 Keywords, including explanatory scope notes and cross references to other terms, and scope notes for the 1998 Publication Types, are being made available at the World Wide Web site of the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature (NRCBL). The WWW address is: http://bioethics.georgetown.edu/nrc/

Visitors to this Web site may also be interested in viewing some of the NRCBL's annotated bibliographies that are currently posted on such topics as eugenics, genetic testing and screening, cloning, and assisted suicide.

The 1998 Keywords are a supplement to the Bioethics Thesaurus, 1997 edition. You may with to annotate the 1997 edition with the new terms to create a consolidated list.

Bioethics Thesaurus, 1997 Edition
The annotated 1997 Edition of the Bioethics Thesaurus is available at this Web site: [This link was removed because it is no longer valid].

This 88-page publication includes cross references to broader, narrower, and related terms for most of the 650+ Keyword Descriptors used in indexing BIOETHICSLINE through 1997. It also includes a "Selected List of 'Major Issue' Keywords," a list of 15 Subject Captions (such as AN for analytical and EM for empirical) that can be useful in limiting searches, a Permuted Keyword Index, and the 1997 annotated list of 29 Publication Types.
