Number of data collected on VHD-MMS mirror FTP site, started with October 1997, are still few for a complete case study of mirror site setup impact on NLM ftp site traffic.

     These data, on the other hand, is quite enough to start a report of the more frequently data retrieved from users, and from where. Both on VHD-MMS site and NLM ones, we have collected together all the data concerning the same area of the body, both male and female ones, putting on evidence the interest about some kinds of data, fullcolor or radiological.

     We have reported an absolute random site traffic, both on NLM ftp and VHD-MMS ones and need to set up some kind of initiative around Europe for a best knowledge of VHD-MMS services.

     We have also reported the intrinsic nature of Internet.  The faster downloaded site is not always the one more nearly you geographically, and all the technical choises you done cannot cover all individual situations. So we are investigating because some German and French users are still using  NLM ftp site, and Spanish not. Or because VHD-MMS have reported some access from Taiwan and Singapore, home of another VHD mirror site. Knowing better these mechanisms should help all us to serve better the entire community of VHD users.

     We are sure that a bit more intensive analisys of the collections of Internet servers logs, both on NLM site and VHD mirror ones, could be the right way to follow to best understand what users done with VHD images, and which kind of support they need around the world. For this reason we hope to be able to work with other mirror site, other than with NLM, to put together our individual data to design the real worldwide VHD users scenario.
