Martha R. Szczur Named Associate Deputy Director, Specialized Information Services

Has Held Leadership Roles in Public and Private Sectors

The National Library of Medicine announces the appointment of Martha R. Szczur as Associate Deputy Director of Specialized Information Services. Ms. Szczur had been Chief of the Information Systems Center for Applied Engineering and Technology Directorate at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

Ms. Szczur has more than 20 years of leadership, management, and hands-on experience in the information systems business, both as a civil servant and with industry. Prior to coming to the Library Ms. Szczur was responsible for providing information systems, advanced technology products, and support services to GSFC's flight mission projects and science programs. These covered such areas as mission operations, data processing, science analysis, ground/space communications, business applications, and infrastructure technologies.

Ms. Szczur has authored or co- authored 35 technical papers and has been the recipient of more than 40 professional awards, including two NASA Space Act Awards for Technology Innovations, the NASA Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal Award, and the Federal Laboratory Consortium Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer.

She has a degree in mathematics from Converse College, Spartanburg, South Carolina. NLM's Division of Specialized Information Services provides online services, responds to queries, sponsors publications, supports the information requirements of other Federal agencies, and supports interactive retrieval services in toxicology hazardous chemicals and environmental health, as well as in other health-related areas.
