Bitterroot (Lakota name: Sinkpe tawote. Scientific name: Acorus calamus), 2011

A decoction of the root is taken for fever, sore throats, coughs, stomach problems, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. A poultice of the crushed root used externally for muscle cramps.
